Who replaces David Stockdale? Here are FIVE possible targets

Blues may be in the market for a new keeper this summer. If rumours are to be believed, Garry Monk has told David Stockdale he is free to leave the club due to his alleged 40k a week contract.

We take a look at five possible targets that could be filling Stockdale’s gloves next season.

1) Boaz Myhill

Veteran Myhill had a successful loan spell at Blues back in 2011/12 and is out of contract with recently relegated Baggies. Myhill has spent much of his time as back up to Ben Foster so the opportunity to get back to playing first team football may be a big pull for Myhill.

2) Joel Robles

Robles moved to Everton from Atletico Madrid in 2013, after a loan spell at Wigan the year before. In his time at Everton he has never managed to secure the first team starting spot for a sustained period of time. At 27 Robles is approaching his peak years and with his contract now expiring Blues could tempt the Spaniard to stay in England

3) Wayne Hennessey

31 year old Welshman Hennessey is still to agree a new deal with Crystal Palace making him available on a free transfer. In 2016 Palace have tried to replace Hennessey with Steve Mandanda, but things never worked out and Hennessey got his place back in the Palace 11. As an ex Wolvesman would Hennessey be a popular choice for Bluenoses?

4) Ben Hamer

The Leicester man admitted last month he was unsure on his future as his contract expires this summer. Hamer was restricted to just 4 premier league appearances this season by Kasper Schmeichel with no realistic chance of dislodging the Danish stopper as No.1.

5) Rob Green

Monk has previously worked with Green and could be interested in bringing the former England No.1 to Blues. With age against him, he wouldn’t be a long term option. However Green has expressed a desire to play for as long as possible.

Tomasz Kuszczak/Connal Trueman

We could just look within and either revert back to Kuszczak or promote Trueman. Kuszczak is a steady operator and has been a good servant to the club over the past few years. While Trueman famously won the man of the match award twice in our less than impressive performances this season.

What do you think Blues fans, do any of the above standout? Let us know your suitable replacement in the comment section below!

    • We have NO chance at all of signing Hart SteveO! His careers on the slide but he will no doubt stay in the premier league or move to another of Europes top leagues

  1. To be fair we have been fairly lucky with keepers over recent years as well as back in time, granted some have left Blues for greater careers but I can’t honestly say there was one I really thought was shit, just the odd bad day at the office, all mentioned here are promising and would be good if possible to get someone a bit younger with experience so we can build to move forward rather than short term KRO SOTV

  2. With Monk already missing out on Scott Bains(Dundee) to Celtic, and having given a trial to a young WHU goalkeeper, Matrevics it seems he’s identified goalkeeper as a position he wants to strengthen. I think it’s even possible we could lose both 1st team keepers, with Derb’s Carson rumoured to be off to a Prem club, they’re looking to replace him with Kuszczak.
Having had Rob Green at Leeds, it’s possible he could be bought in, and I think Monk’ll be looking at young, but experienced keepers, one example is the young Man Utd keeper, who’s on loan at Shrewsbury, Henderson, he’s more than likely to be available, once Shrewsbury exploits in the play offs are sorted.
Whether Stockdale being made available has anything to do with Monk’s statement about wanting mentalitys to change, or the fact that he’s looked heavy over the season, or even both, it’s not too clear at the moment.
With other areas of the squad seemingly in more urgent need of attention, I am surprised he’s decided to look at that position, but by now he knows the players he can trust and wants to keep, so I think it’s best to say, trust in Monk and he’ll get it right.

  3. Harry’s transfer record coming home to roost. £2m a year plus commission. Brighton about £100 m better of than us wouldn’t pay their player of the year that amount.
