Yes, you guessed it, no more of our Grounds videos…

The speculation about Jonathan Grounds is true and we understand he’s been listed for transfer this Summer.

The 30-year-old joins Jason Lowe and Andrew Shinnie on the departure list, with David Stockdale also likely to leave St Andrews this Summer, after being told he can do so.

Many Blues fans will not only feel Grounds had a standout season last campaign, but he’s definitely worth having as a back-up at the club.

This window is going to be very much a cash-in window, as Monk can only bring in players by getting rid of the deadwood and high earners.

Diego Fabbrini and Robert Tesche are two players also waiting in the wings as they have publicly stated they want to stay at their current clubs in Spain and Germany respectively.

Brock-Madsen could also be staying at Cracowia as they have come out to press and said they want to keep him on for a longer loan spell.

What are your thought’s on this news, will Blues miss Groundsy?

    • Poor comment chosen by last 4 managers. Strong determined and under valued by many supporters. Always 100% unlike some others.

    • Every attribute? No pace and struggles positionally. Good in the air and gives 100%. Sorry, but if blues fans want to see Blues climb that table, just giving 100% is not good enough on its own.

  1. i thought grounds was one of the few players that did play well last season until he got injured we lost a lot of matches while he was out

  2. I too like Grounds every now and then he makes the odd mistake would be a shame to let him go, if Garry wants a more inteligent wing back so be it. I’m still trying to reason why we are getting rid of Stockdale …. KRO

  3. I would say Grounds improved a little over his time with Blues. 5 previous managers failed to spot his inadequacies. Monk got it in one. Only Jenkinson was worse, a lot worse.

  4. Based on big Wes’ fantastic few performances, I’m happy to cash in on a decent championship player that is grounds; assuming the money goes towards a replacement or a decent centre midfielder.

  5. Where has it been officially stated either player can leave? Same as I’d ask you to justify your comment that Blues have got to sell players before getting new faces in You’ve got no idea same as the rest of us fans

    • Have you not seen the comments about FFP? If we want new players some will have to go sadly. It is not a matter of not being able to pay their wages or being able to afford them it is about keeping within a limit of debt or having a transfer embargo and possibly other punishments

  6. I liked Grounds he worked hard and was functional. However, let’s be honest if the club wants to progress we need to move players like him on. I would like to see a younger player brought in to develop, maybe a lower league player or the youth system (I’m sure the talent is there) Thanks for the service Grounds

  7. Always thought Grounds was a decent left back and stand-In centre back when called upon. Hopefully see one of the young lads come through as with Wes.

  8. As soon as we’d secured our Championship place I was looking forward to the close season, in the anticipation that Monk would sort the ‘wheat from the chaff’ and it appears he’s getting right down to it.
It’s fair to say, since Monks arrival we’ve seen an improvement in individuals performances and particularly improvement in the team on the whole.
It’s obvious we need improvement in certain positions, and I have no doubt Garry Monks got his own ideas and detailed targets, however, he could well find some answers in the returning loanees, that’s ‘IF’ he sees a willingness from them to fight for our cause, and even in the younger ranks, I’m sure there’s 1 or 2 more like Wes Harding.
The only doubt I have is, will Monk have enough time to implement his ideas, because I think he’s only just started on, what will be fairly ruthless, there’s not one exit that would really surprise me, there’s many reasons why a player could leave, attitude, wages, even the transfer fee we could get for them, but there’s lots of players Monk could bring in and, like I’ve said, he’s almost certainly got his detailed targets, he’s been quoted as being a very meticulous man, very deliberate in his planning, and he’s already showing he’s up to the very difficult tasks that lies ahead of him.
The majority of the players go back as far as Rowett, and he saw that we needed improving, so, it’s about time we had a MASSIVE clear out.
I just hope we ALL back him by packing StAnns out every game.
I’m renewing my season ticket asap.

    K R O !!!

    • It takes time to clearout the players you don’t want. That’s why there appears to be a three-year action plan. I say “appears” because of read that Garry has said that, but can’t find it again.

  9. Grounds is League at best… He just hasn’t the attributes for a modern day wing back.. Doesnt overlap his winger, lacks pace going forward, his defensive positional sense is poor, makes rickets… In a positive vein he always gives 100%,but overall ability is not good enough to take Blues to a higher level… Good decision by Monk if its true…

  10. I like many others was a fan of Groundsey. He was caught out a few times mainly away games. All the best Grounds. Now is the time to let GM to build a team to battle for the top of the table not scrape away at the bottom ……… KRO
