RUMOUR: Blues join the race to sign Sunderland winger

Blues have been rumoured to join Nottingham Forest and Blackburn in the race to sign Sunderland winger Will Buckley.

Blues are now looking for a suitable replacement for Demarai Gray after he signed for Leicester City yesterday afternoon, and Buckley has been heavily linked with Blues this week on social media.

According to a report in The Sun, Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has put five players up for sale as he looks to raise some added funds in order to strengthen his squad this month. One of those is Buckley and a number of Championship clubs are now looking for his signature, after being told he can leave the Stadium of Light.

Buckley hasn’t managed to cut it after former boss Gus Poyet brought him from Brighton upon his appointment, and has fallen down the pecking order. He does however possess quality and represents a good asset for the Championship.

The 26-year-old has recently been on loan at Leeds United – making only four appearances. A loan deal would be available for his services.

What do you think, would Blues be able to sign him?

  1. Callum McManaman from WBA is the current 1st choice winger for a Gray replacement. He is a better player that Gray too. Upgrade + spare cash = win win.

  2. How much is he on £20k, £30k a week ?
Do you really think Blues can afford that? No chance unless he takes a pay cut.
One sentence you say he’s for sale so Sunderland can raise funds, then in the next sentence it ‘s a loan, which is it?
No way we can afford to buy him for the price Sunderland would want (£2.5 mill purchase price).
Pretty sure Forest and Blackburn will pay higher wages than us.
A loan maybe possible but you say Sunderland want a sale.

  3. The lad could be a decent turn in the championship with games like. He Just was not good enough to make an immediate impact in a relegation threatened confidence shy prem club. Good luck to the lad.
