It seems Garry Monk is wasting no time in bringing in a replacement for David Stockdale.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies is poised to make a move to St Andrews.

However, any move will be solely dependant on whether high earner Stockdale departs. It is worth noting Smithies is currently on £10k a week, compared to Stockdale’s £40k.

According to Transfermarkt, Smithies has a current price valuation of £3 million, as well as two years left on his current contract at Loftus Road.

The 28-year-old has made 109 appearances for QPR and gained 20 clean sheets.

He joined The Hoops in August 2015, signed for £500,000 from his hometown club Huddersfield Town.

  1. With Monk having submitted and discussed his list of targets with the owners, then ‘IF’ Smithers ‘IS’ on that list, then so be it, he obviously sees something in him.
As it’s been pointed out, Smithers is contracted to QPR until 2020, and even if they were to let him leave, a fee of around 2 to 3 million is expected to be the price.
With how meticulous Monks planning appears to be, he will know everything about his targets, and with several other positions seemingly in need of improvement, it’s interesting to see what percentage Smithers fee would be of Monks total budget.
Other names have been mentioned, Green, Vorm, Hamer and Henderson but how accurate ANY rumours are I don’t know.
Based on the little I do know, at 23 Smithers has time to Improve, but then so too does Henderson at 21, he’s had a very successful loan at Shrewsbury this season and appears to be available at 1 million from his parent club Man U, with Bristol C rumoured to be ready to offer that amount, and surely Shrewsbury will want him for next season, whether they get promoted or not.
Of the older keepers, Greens played for Monk at Leeds, and he would know all about Vorm from his time at Swansea, but that could be where the rumours have started from in the first place, but both wouldn’t command a fee.
Whoever it turns out to be, I just hope we improve on the most crucial positions aswell, creativity in midfield, more goalscoring up front, and if we get a left back, a left sided centre back and a more effective midfielder enforcer, then, happy days.

  2. What on earth makes you think that Q.P.R is going to let Smithies go. Why would he take a step backwards? DREAM ON.

  3. The best goalkeeper I have ever seen at loftus rd, defiantly the best goalkeeper in the chapionship, a price tag of about 10 million may force QPR hand.

  4. Blues needs to be offered at least £10m for Stockdale. Then pick up another keeper at between £1m-£3m and agree a sensible salary not £40k a week. We need to strengthen the squad in defence, midfield and attack. TTA will get value for money with Garry Monk who knows the market and what he wants to make Blues a successful team again.
