PREVIEW: Blues V Derby – Can the Rams be tamed?

The ground was named St Andrews back in 1906

Birmingham City vs Derby County
2017/18 EFL Championship
Date: Sat, 13th January 2018
Kick Off: 15:00
Venue: St. Andrew’s Stadium

Blues will be looking to replicate their recent top form tomorrow afternoon as the Rams come to town.

Cotterill’s side are on a run of three convective wins, all being clean sheets. Although the cup tie against Burton weren’t as pretty as the victories over Leeds and Reading, the players got the job done and they will be looking to snatch all three points to get out of the drop zone this weekend.

Here’s what Cotterill had to say about the current form:

“There is a long way to go in the season and we are still down there. Three wins won’t make your season, it will certainly help. It’s pretty much head down and carry on working.”

Derby boss Gary Rowett returns to St Andrews again, but three points is more vital to Blues than welcoming him back.

Rowett was straight up with the press this week about his sacking, here’s what he had to say:

“I don’t feel smug at all,” Rowett said at his press conference this morning. “I built good relationships there and you don’t just throw them away.”

“To be honest, I’m bored of speaking about it now. It’s been a year now and we’ve already been back once.”

Here’s what the Blues boss had to say about welcoming him back:

“I would hope he would get a good reception. I am pretty sure he will, put it this way he deserves a good reception. I am sure he is looking forward to coming back and seeing a lot of the faces that he got on well with at the Club.”

Team News

Steve Cotterill has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game. Isaac Vassell is the only player out with a knee injury.

Che Adams is set to be on the bench again as he looks to regain match fitness after his hamstring injury.

Bradley Johnson and fellow midfielder Joe Ledley are both injury doubts for the Rams.

Score prediction

I’m going for a 2-1 Blues victory, I think the Blues front three will be too much for Davies and Keogh and Boga and Mags will be able to run riot against their fullbacks. I think it will be a cagey game to begin with, but Blues to snatch the winner late in the second half!
