PREVIEW: Birmingham City Ladies v Reading

Birmingham City Ladies v Reading Women

2017/18 Women’s Super League 1

Sunday 20th May, 2018

KO: 12.30

Venue: St Andrew’s

Birmingham City Ladies will be looking to end the season on a high, to secure fourth place in WSL1, with a win over Reading on Sunday at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham has faced Reading five times since the Women’s Super League began in 2011, and have drawn four of those meetings.

Reading is yet to win against the Blues in five attempts with their closest chance at three points coming earlier this season.

But a last gasp header from captain Kerys Harrop rescued a point for the Midlands side.

Birmingham’s first win over Reading also came earlier this season.

Reading 0-1 Birmingham City (Feb 4)

Marisa Ewers’ superb first-half strike gave the Blues the win at Adams Park. The win ensured Birmingham City advanced to the fifth round of the FA Women’s Cup.

Predicted Starting XI

Thoughts from Manager Marc Skinner

Despite success last time out against Reading back in February, manager Marc Skinner still expects a tough test on Sunday at St Andrew’s.

“I expect a real tough game; it always is against Reading,” said Skinner.

“We beat them in the FA Cup but drew against them in the league.

“If we perform I think we can beat anybody.

“We have to beat them on Sunday to finish ahead of them and that’s what we are aiming to do.

“They are a good team with a lot of good players.

“I respect them highly but I want to win every game.”

Great Since 68 Score Predictions

Birmingham City have had a remarkable run since their defeat to Sunderland back in January.

Only WSL1 champions Chelsea have a better record since the turn of the year with Birmingham winning eight of their last 12 matches.

Meanwhile, Reading are also in fine-form with former Blues midfielder Remi Allen having her best scoring season ever with 9 goals.

I expect an exciting final game of the season with both teams going into the game in great form.

On the Great Since 68 podcast this week I went for a 4-2 win for Birmingham.

My co-host Chris Pugh, perhaps better known as ‘Mr Fun’ from the Tilton Talk Show, has gone for 3-1 to Blues.
