Birmingham City Ladies produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Liverpool 4-0 at Damson Park.
Goals from Rachel Williams, Paige Williams, Jess Carter and Ellen White gave the Blues their biggest win over the Merseyside team in seven years.
Birmingham began brightly with early warning shots from Hayley Ladd and Rachel Williams going wide of the mark.
The breakthrough came in the 12th minute thanks to the latter, her thunderous left-footed strike flying in the top corner from just outside the area.
Seven minutes later and it was 2-0 to the home side.
Paige Williams’ whipped cross deflected off the head of Liverpool midfielder Kate Longhurst and into the back of the net.
It was all Birmingham as the home side continued to press forward in pursuit of more goals.
Rachel Williams went close once more before Carter added the third before half-time.
Carter superbly worked some space for herself on the edge of the box, before firing low into the bottom corner.
After the restart Liverpool should have got themselves back into the game but failed to take their chance.
Jess Clarke found herself in space on the right wing but her cross was turned wide of the post by striker Beth England.
England tried her luck soon after with an audacious chip attempt that Ann-Katrin Berger was more than equal to.
With Liverpool slowly starting to get themselves back into the match, Birmingham continued to look for more.
Emma Follis’ long-range effort stung the hands of Siobhan Chamberlain before Paige Williams tried her luck from distance as well.
But it was this season’s top goal-scorer White who compounded Liverpool’s misery with her eighth goal of the season.
Substitute Sarah Mayling’s cross was expertly controlled by the England international before turning her marker and dispatching the ball into the far corner.
Birmingham remain in fifth but have now closed the gap on fourth-placed Liverpool to just two points.
The Blues travel to Bristol City on Wednesday for their next league game.
