MATCH REPORT: Birmingham City 3 Rotherham United 1

Birmingham City saw off a struggling Rotherham United side as Garry Monk’s men secured their Championship status for another season.

In the 6th minute, Blues were nearly ahead. From a free kick, Jota played the ball across the box, the ball found Che Adams, he shot at goal, but a flying Rodak denied the 22 year old.

However, just 16 minutes later and Rotherham were in front. Crooks found himself free in the box and fired past a helpless Lee Camp. Not the start Blues would have wanted.

6 minutes before the interval, Lukas Jutkiewicz nearly put the Blues level. After being played through by record signing Jota, the striker unleashed his effort which went narrowly wide of Rodak’s post. A frustrating first half for Blues, which saw them go into the break losing despite their efforts.

10 minutes into the second period, and Blues were back on level terms through Jacques Maghoma. The Congo international skipped past 3 players and found the top left corner in style: Maghoma’s 6th goal of the season.

It got even better for Blues just 8 minutes later as Jota slotted home from close range. After David Davis picked out the Spaniard, Jota controlled the ball before putting The Blues into the lead.

In the 85th minute, Gary Gardner hit the post. A free kick from just outside the box found its way over the wall and just scraped the outside of the post. So close from the midfielder.

After the fourth official added 5 minutes of additional time, everyone would think Blues would defend. However, Kerim Mrabti had other ideas. A Jacques Maghoma pass found the Swedish international who fired past Rodak to secure all 3 points, but most importantly, to secure Championship safety.

In typical Blues fashion, we have survived another relegation scrap. Let’s get behind the boys to help them secure another 6 points in the last 2 games of the season.
