A frustrating day at St Andrews as the Blues failed to gain points against local rivals Aston Villa.
The first opening of the game came blues’ way in the 7th minute. A fine piece of link up play between Adams and Maghoma allowed the winger to shoot at goal, but it sailed into the hands of Steer.
Another chance came begging Blues’ way. A corner found Michael Morrison but he could not manage to get his shot on target.
Blues could have been ahead just before half-time. A longshot by Che Adams just crept past the post. Steer was stranded. The two teams went in level.
It was a complete different half in the second period. The ball dropped to Andre Green in the box, he looked certain to score, but his shot got blocked by youngster Wes Harding. Villa were gaining momentum.
However, after lots of pressure Villa broke the dead lock. Grealish found himself in lots of space, he shot the ball and it arrowed right into the corner of the net, just two minutes after they missed a golden opportunity with Green.
The Blues had two great chances to pull level in the later stages of the game. The ball fell to Craig Gardner on the edge of the 6-yard box but he blasted over. In the 93rd minute of the game, he had another chance, but Gardner could not divert his header into the goal.
Overall, a game of two halves for Blues. Lacking quality in the final third for this one. We will looked to bounce back against a struggling Millwall side in midweek. We will remember being a Blues fan involves both ‘joys and sorrows’
