Match Preview: Swansea (H)

Friday night football returns for Blues tonight, as we take on recently relegated Swansea City in our third match of the season, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football.

Blues have had a fairly rotten start to the new campaign, as after two league games we are sat on just 1 point and on Tuesday night we were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round of the competition. We had a bad start to the 2017/18 season and we had to keep ourselves up on the last day of the season for the second year running, so we need to start picking up some points fast to make sure we’re not threatened with relegation for a third consecutive season.

Swansea on the other hand have had the best start to Championship life they could have wished for, winning their opening two games 2-1 and 1-0. The Swans are a good side as they have shown so far, but we need to knock them down a peg or two tonight and show everyone that we are good enough to be fighting against the some-what better teams in this division.

Swansea have played their first two games with a solid 4-3-3 formation, with Oliver McBurnie leading the line in the centre-forward position. The Scottish striker spent last season on loan at Barnsley, and he scored against us twice at St. Andrew’s in a game towards the later end of the season. He netted once for Swansea so far this season when he did so on the first day against Sheffield United. Fingers crossed our back-line will be able to keep him and the rest of the opposition away from our goal today seeing as we have conceded 5 goals in all competitions already.

Garry Monk played a completely different Starting XI on Tuesday night to the side that we played against Middlesbrough in the league last Saturday. The likes of Omar Bogle and Conor Mahoney made their debuts against Reading in the Cup, yet we unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net on the night in a fixture where the Royals outplayed us. Lee Camp also made his first appearance for the Boys in Blue. The ‘keeper wasn’t a big fan of too many Bluenoses when he was signed this summer, and he didn’t play particularly well on Tuesday after being caught wrong-footed on a free-kick that resulted in their second goal. Hopefully Trueman takes his space back in the team tonight.

Blues need to play to the very best of their ability tonight and get 3 points in the bag against a very good side. I believe we can do it however but it won’t be easy by any means… COME ON YOU BLUES!!!
