MATCH PREVIEW: Leeds United V Blues

Blues celebrate an away victory against Leeds last season
Blues celebrate an away victory against Leeds last season

We are yet again set to entertain the Bluenoses in tonight’s clash against Leeds United, as we will attempt to bounce back effectively after falling to a stubborn 1-0 loss Away against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

The boys in royal blue are without a win in their last 4 league encounters, losing 3 on-the-trot. A lacklustre performance in Norfolk saw just 1 shot-on-target from our boys. However, with our heads high, and our spirits blazing, we look to finally get back in to the swing of things, with a win assuring confidence will be sky-high when we face Preston on the Home turf on Saturday.

Our opponents are an intimidating bunch in the campaign so far, as they look to make it 4 league wins in a row after commanding a 5-0 battering against a struggling Burton Albion side in the weekend’s fixture.

Blues star-signing, Jota, was voted as Man of the Match by the supporting Bluenoses against Norwich, as he stood out amongst many others on his debut performance. It was a game that welcomed a lot of new signings in to the team, and despite their high work-ethics, in usual Blues fashion, we couldn’t appear to hit the back of the net. But with Che Adams back, hopefully a winning formula will be found at last.

Leeds are now second in the league with a promising 14 points. Their men-of-the-moment are Samuel Sáiz and Kemar Roofe, who both have 5 goals and an assist to their name in all competitions this year. The duo are both averaging a goal every 97 minutes, whereas Blues’ top-scorer Che Adams has only played 69 minutes of football this season, scoring all of his goals in our cup tie against Crawley Town.

The West-Yorkshire based club are currently unbeaten in every match they’ve played this season. But the blue boys will be testing their limits to the max in order to end this fabulous run-of-form from the opposing side, as we look to restore the moral within the Birmingham team and keep belief in Harry Redknapp as he continues his journey as Blues boss.

The fans will have their eyes upon the win only, as HR could play pretty much any side he fancies. It’s understood that we will most likely see the gaffer play his trusted 3 at the back formation for the clash. Sam Gallagher will be trying his best to get his goal-scoring tally at Birmingham off the mark, in an attempt to pick ourselves up from this horrid run of form we have been enduring over the past weeks.

Team News:

BLUES – Isaac Vassell is not fully fit yet and will not feature. Carl Jenkinson is the only other player out of the team for tomorrow with a shoulder injury.

LEEDS – Vurnon Anita and Eunan O’Kane are both fully fit despite coming off due to injuries on Saturday. Pierre Michel-Lasogga may not feature as his girlfriend is due to give birth.

League Form:

Previous Encounter:

Blues 1-3 Leeds (3rd March 2017)

Played for both – Robbo:

Believe it or not, Paul “Robbo” Robinson has played for the Leeds lot. He sustained a partial loan deal in 2012, where he made just 10 appearances for the Whites. However unlikely it may be that Robbo will feature in this game, he is still and always will be a Blues legend, and he can still play football to a professional standard at 38 years of age!

Predicted Lineup:

Blues are looking to go with 3 at the back again, with Maxime Colin and Cohen Bramall on the wings to provide the width, and strive to cause some issues for the Leeds back-line. Gallagher and Adams look set to play together up-top to try and get the goals scored. Jota will look to work his magic in the middle of the park, with Davis and Gardner in behind for support.

Thoughts from the Boss:

Personal experiences against Leeds:

There are certain grounds you go to and do well. I have been to Leeds many times over the years, and it all depends on what Leeds side you face.

On the Leeds test:

They are a good team, but we are a good team as well. There is always pressure when you need results, but if you look at the table, one win and you can move up ten places. We have got to be ready today and play well.

Reflecting on the Norwich defeat:

I thought we played well on Saturday, we didn’t create enough chances but going forward I can see a different team here now. I see a team that can go forward and I see a team that will be there challenging.

Score Prediction:

After such a stalemate of form for Blues lately, we can only be positive and hope for the best… so I’m going to be hoping for us to secure a 2-1 Away win on a cold Tuesday night in West-Yorkshire.

I think that with the option of Che Adams and Sam Gallagher upfront, and with the skill of the likes of Jota running the show in the middle of the park, we can just about snatch the win against a well performing Leeds side.

That’s my score prediction, but I want to hear yours! Comment them below, and feel free to tell us what you think about this Match Preview…

  1. Just can’t see us scoring more than 1 goal against anyone at mo ,so with that in mind and 1 goal certainly not enough to win here I’ll go 3-1 Leeds
