Blues find themselves staring at a potential relegation dog fight already and last night’s defeat to Brentford didn’t help the cause.

No desire
Cotterill’s side are consistently inconsistent in terms of performances. Many Blues fans left St Andrew’s on Sunday with a smile on their face. Just three days later, it’s a different story. Albeit it was a derby and the players are expected to turn up for those caliber of games, but we’ve seen our form turn a corner so many times this season (beating Cardiff then going on to lose at Millwall just one of them), which poses the question – is there something more worrying behind the scenes us fans aren’t aware of?

Three managers in less than a year and not one of them is or was able to get a run of form going. There’s something not sitting right at the moment, it’s rotten to the core, it has been since the dismissal of Rowett. But we can’t keep crying over that decision, issues lie way beyond management.

As for the squad, its the strongest we’ve seen in many years, they should be at least showing the desire to win the game every week, surely?

Running out of ideas

Brentford played us off the park for most of the game last night and our midfield simply couldn’t handle their game plan. Stretching the field, our middle three of Davis, NDoye and Kieftenbeld were simply ghosts of their own selves on Sunday against Villa. “You bought our squad and you f****d it up” was the chant from the away end. Maybe directed at Redknapp specifically, but Cotterill’s decisions last night were a major factor in losing the game. Bringing our record buy Jota off for Gallagher was questioned by everyone in the ground, it seemed like the gaffer ran out of ideas and quick.

Squad rotation and the injury plague

Playing two games in four days is one thing, but playing the same lineup is another. We saw it at Hull, a 6-1 defeat to the same XI that put in a spirited display in the 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, surely Cotterill was wary of that this time around?

Vassell goes off injured during the derby
Vassell goes off injured during the derby

Our top striker Vassell is out for six months with a cruciate ligament injury and it seems like right-back Colin suffered the same set back last night. Something is fundamentally wrong when you’ve seen more hamstring injuries than goals.

David Cotterill was called upon and put in a good shift, but it’s beggars belief that Brammall is not getting a look in on matchday. Maybe the whole ‘bust up’ saga with Stockdale hindered any chance of featuring on matchday, but now we’re desperate for that type of player. One that can run down the sidelines and link up play with the wingers. We saw it when Caddis was still wearing Blue, him and Cotterill formed a partnership we’d have back in a heartbeat.

Goals goals goals

I simply don’t know where the goals are going to come from. It’s the same old story every season, but this time round we’re the lowest scoring team in the division (8). Hoofing the ball up to Adams simply won’t work, he needs a ball on the ground he can latch onto. He needs a creative player behind him and that’s why I think Jota should be playing the number 10 role as he’s getting bullied out on the wing. Also, whats happened to Boga? Chelsea fans rate him highly and he’s not getting a look-in. I’m no expert, but I know a creative player when I see one.

There seems to be no leadership which is worrying as its hard to think who’s taking charge in the dressing room. All successful teams have multiple leaders that are willing to put their body on the line for the team, at the moment it looks like no one’s willing to stand up and be the ‘big man’.

Back to basics, or too basic?

Cotterill’s aim has been to install belief and confidence into the side. His no no-nonsense coaching helped us stay up last term but can it this time round?

The last two seasons we’ve found ourselves drop near the dropzone, now we’re in it. Worrying times ahead and although there’s more than half a season to go, Blues are only heading one way.

We want to hear your thought’s (or rants), can Blues turn their season around before it’s too late?

  1. Of course it can change with the games left but will it ?NO ,used to hate international break ,can’t wait for this one we’ll have a weekend not ruined by these footballers (sorry did I say footballers )……
    Score prediction for Saturday :
Barnsley (play as a team and fight for each other )5 Birmingham (stealing a living )0…

  2. lets give cotteril a chance he has inherited them players injuries do not help. I think Morrison needs leaving out three times last night he got caught with balls over the top and the last time he gave away a penalty. Brentford fans rate Harley Dean so lets try Roberts with dean Gardener back in midfield Davis looks a different player to last season play Gallagher down the middle with che jota on the left with cotteril on the right Nsue will have to come back in we are short on fit right backs. lets hope they step up on Saturday.

  3. The squad is a mess.we don’t have any natural goal scorers.midfield weak in the creative department. We seem to have trouble doing the simple things.Have no reason to feel positive about this team.

  4. Every year the fans ask for a goalscorer, every year the club fail to deliver. We also need a creative midfielder and a left sided centre back.We signed all the wrong players and are no better off!

  5. I have noticed you don’t monetize your site, don’t waste your traffic, you can earn additional bucks every month because you’ve got high quality content.
