Gray reportedly close to Leicester City move

It’s the news Blues fans might have been expecting as soon as the January transfer window opened, but reports coming from the Daily Mirror have suggested Demarai Gray is close to a transfer to Leicester City.

The Foxes, who have made an explosive start to their Premier League campaign were amongst a host of teams that were linked with Gray last year, but it was Bournemouth who came closest to his signature after having a flurry of bids declined.

The Mirror claims that the 19-year-old winger has chosen Leicester City after having a £3.75million exit clause inserted into the three-year-deal he signed last July.

If Gray does make the move to Leicester City, Blues will get that fee upfront, with the potential for hefty add-ons. It is likely that the board will see that as a more productive move than £5million spread across five years, for example.

It means that if Gray does depart, Blues will have the chance to potentially reinvest the money straight away, which isn’t a disaster.

With Leicester’s current squad in terrific form, there could be the opportunity for a loan back to Blues, should the deal go through.

Also coming through the wings is young Viv Soloman-Otobar, who received his first start in the 1-0 against MK Dons last week.

This is the first real transfer rumour affecting Blues this January and it certainly won’t be the last. Time will tell what happens, but would you be disappointed to see Dimmy leave?

  1. In a word…no. He’s no Nathan Redmond and I am afraid despite his early impressive form has proved to be a little average for me. Whether that is because of the way we are playing him is to be questioned but 3.75 million up front would be key to Blues making much needed improvements to the squad.
