Gary Rowett on looking forward to working with Jacques Maghoma again

Gary Rowett has revealed Jacques’ best is yet to come. Rowett’s second signing is relishing a fresh challenge at Blues with former Burton Albion boss and has revealed it was the lure of Gary Rowett that brought him to the club.

Maghoma and Rowett were together from 2009-2013 at Burton, where the Blues manager was assistant boss before taking the main job himself.

Here’s what Rowett had to say about his former player:

“Jacques is a player I have worked closely with, as a manager and as a coach,” commented Rowett. “When I took over (as manager) at Burton, there were certain things in his game he needed to work on. “He needed to play higher, which we got him doing, he scored a few goals and he also worked tremendously hard for us.

“He’s got the potential to play anywhere in the three behind the main striker and on his day he is a very, very talented player. “I believe I can get more out of Jacques, I know what makes him tick, and I’m sure he can add to what is quite an exciting frontline of players we have at the Club.”

“He’s very athletic, a strong boy, and up until Christmas last season I think he was top of the division for most assists. “I think coming here it will give him a new lease of life. I am convinced he can be a good addition for us.”

But it is up to the 27-year-old to force his way into the reckoning, Rowett stressed.

“First, he is aware that he has to get into the team and understands he has got to play well to do that,””The good thing is that we know him, he knows us and with a bit more guidance and confidence, we believe we can help him improve. “And that’s what it’s about: we saw last season that giving players confidence, instilling that belief, it can help take you a long way.

“I am looking forward to working with Jacques again. Like any player, you look to try and improve them and he needs to add that consistent end product, add more goals. But I believe he can and will.”

Hopefully he can get the best out of him as we have seen with a number of his own signings last season. We would like to hear what you think about the new signing, let us know in the comment section!
