Garry Monk provides this positive update on the ‘last signing’

As far as January transfer windows go, this year’s has been very subdued to say the least. With all of the news surrounding the club involving Financial Fair Play, the only transfer news we’ve seen so far is Ronan Hale depart and Greg Stewart return from his loan.

However, due to the strict sanctions imposed by the EFL, Monk has just one solitary loan signing left – that too restricted in terms of wages. Keeping his cards, or card close to his chest, the Blues boss says he is ‘down the line’ in regard to adding this mystery player to his squad.

Here’s what the Blues boss told the press today:

“We are working, we are down the line with one particular target, but I won’t talk about because that’s still in discussions,” said Monk.

“As I said before, we all know the restrictions we have, we have one opportunity left to bring somebody in under certain restrictions, which has been a really difficult process for us – as it was in the summer.

“We are down the line with one, we are in discussions with that.

“If that can be done – then great. If not it’s always a difficult window anyway. But we will see.

“If we can do that it will only be someone who can help strengthen the squad. If we can I will be excited by that, it will be a big, big help for the squad.”
