Watford midfielder Diego Fabbrini is close to leaving the club for Birmingham City, according to HITC this afternoon.
The creative midfielder, who is on a season-long-loan at title-chasing Middlesbrough, played five times for the Blues last season when Rowett bought him on a short-term loan last season.
Many Blues fans seem pleased with the news linking the Italian with a permanent move to St Andrews, especially seeing as he has found game time hard to come by at Boro in the past few weeks.
Karanka’s side have also been linked with a move for Fulham forward Ross McCormack, which should he sign at Teeside, would definitely push Fabbrini further down the pecking order at the Riverside.
Fabbrini has only started just once since Boro’s win against Huddersfield at the end of November.
It is not yet known whether there is a break clause in the Italian’s loan contract at Boro, which could prove a hurdle in any potential deal.
Former Sky and ESPN Sport Journalist Pete O’Rourke added further fuel to the fire this evening by retweeting a HITC story that stated the move was imminent.
Fabbrini was left out of Middlesbrough’s squad this weekend as they lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest, further suggesting a move is looking more likely.
