Blues have been linked with a move for 25-year-old Spanish centre back, Pablo Mari.
Despite not making a single appearance in English football and being contracted to Man City, he spent time away in three separate loan spells with Girona, NAC Breda and most recently Deportivo La Coruna.
Currently, Mari is valued at €800,000 (£715,000), with Man City rumoured to want €1million for him. We understand Levante are also poised to make a move for him. With just a year remaining on his current contract, it may be time for Mari to establish himself at a permanent club, away from the Etihad.
Pablo spent the 2018/19 season at the Estadio Riazor, home to Deportivo La Coruna, who had been relegated to the Spanish second division for last season. A natural left footer, he featured 38 times for the Galician side, exclusively as the left-sided centre back in a back four system and chipped in with two headed goals from set pieces.
Deportivo predominantly used a 4312 system last season, although also experimented with 4231, 433 and 442 as they finished 6th before losing in the promotion play-off final to Mallorca.
Across the season, they averaged 53% possession and played around 440 passes per game at 85% success rate. Comparatively, Blues averaged 41% possession and played only 270 passes with 72% success, so Pablo is used to playing in a side who like to pass the ball around and are comfortable in possession, something Blues would like to emulate.
With the desire from the club to play a fresh and modern style of football, it certainly appears that Pablo would fit the bill with similar defensive output to Harlee Dean and an undoubted ability on the ball coupled with an excellent passing range and ability, this certainly seems to be a very sensible signing should it come to fruition.
