With the Lewis Grabban move to Forest all but completed and a medical expected today, it appears Blues have swiftly moved on to targeting another striker to bolster their attacking line before the new season commences.

However, Monk will have to battle it out with Karanka yet again if he is to gain the signature of this highly rated forward. That man is Brit Assombalonga, according to the Northern Echo.

Once a £15million transfer, it is understood Middlesbrough are looking to shift the 25-year-old off the books. It is also worth noting, according to reports, Britt and Tony Pulis both had a row at their training camp in Austria this week. Their relationship has been left stained so that could be another factor in a move away from the Riverside.

Assombalonga will no doubt be a huge signing for any side in the Championship and would inject goals and pace into any side willing to pay the fee Pullis is willing to accept.

The DR Congo International spent time at the City ground between 2014 and 2017, scoring 14 goals in 20 Championship starts in 2016-17 and 15 goals in 27 league starts in the 2014-15 campaign.

Blues jet off to Austria today for their pre-season tour so transfer correspondence may be down to Dong Ren and his associates back in the UK.

What do you think Blues fans, should Blues do all they can to bring the experienced Assombalonga to St Andrews? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

  1. It’s been mentioned before that Monk was interested in him.
Is this just pure speculation, or are we truly chasing him ?
If it is genuine, then we’ve certainly got some money to splash around.
I don’t see that it’s the same situation as last season’s mad dash for players.
Why ? Because last season Redknapp battled, and repeatedly lost with messrs Vitere and Dein, remember Flint, Hugill etc, etc.
No, this season, it appears Monk is chasing HIS targets, considered targets.
Everyone knows we’re DESPERATE for a goalscorer, yes, and a creative midfielder and one or two other positions.
No, it’s nothing like last season, if his targets DON’T sign for us, it’s because THEY don’t want to join us, and NOT because there’s internal resistance and half hearted efforts in their pursuit.
And, quite frankly, if the player doesn’t want to join us, then we don’t want em.
I’ve said it many times already, and I’ll say it again, TRUST MONK’S JUDGEMENT, TRUST IN MONK !!!!
Oh, and be thankful the clubs backing him, because, HE WILL SUCCEED !!!
I’m extremely optimistic for the coming season, and YES, I’ve got my season ticket.

    K R O, AND BELIEVE !!!

  2. Speculation is a waste of time. It’s what reporters have to do, to get paid. They are under orders from their editor to fill the sports page, so they write whatever comes into their head. I’m only interested when a player has actually signed and is seen holding or wearing a Blues shirt. You only have to look at the headline, that will tell you all you need to know.

  3. Although I think it’s unlikely we are after him, how do you know Birmingham haven’t £18million?
