BLOG: Five signings that would benefit Blues

Following the three summer signings of Maghoma, Legzdins and Kuszczak, Gary Rowett will be hoping to sign a few more outfield players before the pre season friendlies start towards the end of the month.

We take a look at the kind of 5 signings that would benefit Blues including some familiar faces:

1 – Robert Tesche

It was reported last month that Blues were apparently signing Robert Tesche for half a million from Nottingham Forest but nothing came off.

However Gary Rowett will certainly still be interested in the central midfielder after impressing on loan at Blues last season.

Capable of playing the number 10 role behind the striker but thrives in the holding midfield role, Tesche can add power to the midfield.

He may not have that flair and blistering pace but if blues value keeping possession and be simple but effective in creating chances, Robert Tesche is the man for Gary Rowett.

2 – Diego Fabbrini

If Gary Rowett wants that flair in his team then he needs to look no further than Diego Fabbrini. On loan from newly promoted Watford, he was definitely one to watch at St Andrews during his spell and very much became a fan favourite.

This is because his speed, awareness and sense of direction he brings to the midfield. Let’s face it, I’m not naming anyone, but the midfield we have at the moment doesn’t really match all the qualities Fabbrini has in his locker.

The Italian’s future is yet to be decided but with Gary Rowett due to make a few more signings, this one will definitely be on the top of his list. His phone bill might take even more of a battering though…

3 – Kyle Bartley

We move on to the defensive side of the field. A familiar face, Kyle Bartley who wore a Blues shirt two seasons ago is currently at Swansea. However he hasn’t got the look in he wants in Gary Monks side, being used mainly as backup in my eyes.

He is a Premier League player, and worthy of that too but at least at a Championship club you are getting games under your belt. Maybe another loan switch could be on the cards, all we know is he’s a solid defender and I definitely admired him and his work rate during his time at St Andrews.

However talking earlier today Rowett believes he is ‘fully stocked’ in the defensive department:

“With Specs and Robbo re-signing, Groundsy can play in there, we have got David Edgar due to come back after the Gold Cup, so at this moment in time I think we are actually quite well stocked in that area,” Rowett said.

A few may disagree with me but I would definitely welcome him back!

4 –  John Guidetti

I know what you’re thinking, as Blues fans chant, “who are ya?!”

John Guidetti is a Swedish striker who has played for both Celtic and Stoke. He has since been released by premier league giants Man City.

Helping Sweden to victory at the Under 21 European Championship and plans to decide his future today (Friday).

Speaking after his countries win:

‘The Premier League is a fantastic league. Of course, it’s a dream for everybody to play in there, that’s normal. But I don’t know what’s going to happen.’

A free agent is a more likely target for Rowett and let’s face it we do need a new striker. With Leeds still threatening to poach Donaldson off of us, an international player would definitely be a good move.

This isn’t official news but I have seen him play. He’s quick and has a wicked right foot on him too. If Rowett wants to progress this season, a signing like this one will have to be made sooner rather than later.

Demarai Gray did however follow him today on Instagram:

But we won’t base anything on that… or will we?

5 – Carlton Cole

News has emerged today that Carlton Cole is in advanced talks with an unnamed Championship club.

A well known striker that has played in the Premier League for West Ham for years is now to move on to another club, appearing to be in the Championship.

Again, I’m not linking him to Blues but a high profile signing like this one could boost the firepower in front of goal for Rowett’s men. After all you do need goals and I’m not saying Clayton Donaldson won’t score the majority of them again but sharing is caring.

Comment below any transfer targets Rowett should aim for below!

I leave you with this:
