Birmingham City 1-0 Leeds United- Player Ratings
After 5 straight defeats, Blues have bounced back in typical style by beating high-flying Leeds 1-0 at St Andrews. The performance from the Blues players was one which epitomised what it means to wear the Royal Blue shirt. A display full of heart, character and passion ensured blues secured a massive three points.
Whilst this victory is huge, it by no means suggests that we are completely ‘out of the woods’. However, it does reaffirm my suspicions that the character within the dressing room should be enough to steer us clear of the potential choppy waters ahead. Garry Monk exhibited real feelings of passion at the final whistle, which shows how important the result and performance was. I don’t want to get carried away, but performances like today, should really excite us all about Blues’ future under the guidance of Monk and Co.
Camp 7.5– He pulled of a great save to deny Bamford in the second half and generally commanded his box well. He is an absolute expert when it comes to time-wasting.
Colin 8.5- Another extremely professional defensive display from the Frenchmen. I personally have wanted to see him in the centre of the park for some time, and when he was moved there in the second half, he was faultless. Calm in possession and defensively resolute. An excellent display.
Dean 8.5– Back to his best today against a very capable Leeds front-line. Was imposing defensively but also very calm on the ball. He made Bamford look silly in the build-up to Blues’ goal.
Morrison 7.5– A solid display from the Skipper against a very bright and mobile Bamford.
Pedersen 9– A defensive masterclass from the Dane. Was superlative in the air and dealt with absolutely everything thrown his way. He is proving to be a real steal for £2 million in the current highly inflated market.
Mahoney 7.5- Blues looked dangerous from every corner because of his quality from set pieces. Was his usual direct self, going forwards and put in a real shift defensively. Looked tired towards the end and was rightly replaced by Jota.
Kieftenbeld 6.5– The real down-point on what was a tremendous Blues display was Dutch Mike’s injury. The injury sustained to his knee seems really serious and it looks as though his commitment and work ethic will be missed by blues for the remainder of the season.
Gardner 6.5– Was very solid first half but ultimately had to come off at halftime due to illness.
Maghoma 7– A real shift from ‘Mags’ and his attacking prowess was more evident today. Still has a tendency to find himself the wrong side of his man when defending.
Adams 8.5– After his wonderful goal, was back to being the Adams we’ve been used to seeing this season. Worked the Leeds defence tirelessly and provided a bit of magic on the ball. Hopefully this goal will give him the impetus to end the season strongly for Blues.
Jutkiewicz 9*- Now if there was ever a player to represent everything our club stands for, then Juke is the man. He ran himself into the ground for the team, whilst winning virtually everything in the air. His hold up play was impeccable and his utter commitment to the shirt and the club was terrific. He might not have the most quality on the ball, but he more than makes up for it in the endless work he gives you off it. My man of the match in a truly wonderful team performance.
Davis 7– He came on at halftime and was combative, strong and resolute. Won every 50-50 and second-ball when he came on. No real quality on the ball but dealt with the Leeds bombardment.
Harding 6– A little nervy at first, but grew into it as the half progressed.
Jota 6– Not a glamorous substitutes performance but worked hard to ensure Blues secured all three points.
