On the back of an excellent three points against Leeds, Blued have managed to secure another vital point towards confirming their Championship safety. Sheffield United are arguably one of the League’s most potent attacking forces and Blues limited them to very few chances. This display from Blues against a very difficult opponent, typified everything which this squad is about. The Blues players fought for every last ball and kept such a threatening squad at arm’s length for the majority of the game.
This squad keeps on displaying huge amounts of desire, heart, passion, commitment and fight- all traits which the St. Andrews faithful love to see from its team. The last 180 minutes of football, against two of the best teams in the league, have secured an invaluable four points for blues. The resolve of the Blues defence over the last two games has been admirable. I would even go as far as saying that you’d be hard pressed to find better back-to-back defensive displays all season, from any side. Whilst this Blues team is by no means glamourous, it is mightily effective at doing what it does best. A very disciplined display from Blues squad has helped us move closer to safety. With most results going our way, we are edging closer to ‘riding’ that ‘wave of adversity’, which I keep alluding to. Blues fans can go to bed feeling very proud of their blues team, a team which exemplifies our fans’ passion and fight.
Camp 6- He will be disappointed he didn’t do better with the Sheffield goal. He commanded his area well as United bombarded the blues box at the end of the second half.
Colin 7- Defended assuredly throughout. Had his usual composure on the ball.
Dean 8- Another commanding display from the Blues centre half. Dealt with the attacking nous of Sharp and also the physicality of Madine excellently.
Morrison 8*- Again an excellent performance from the Blues skipper. Limited one of the league’s best squads to very few chances. Topped off a great shift with a very important equaliser. He was arguably Blues’ best player, on what was a superb defensive display.
Pedersen 8– The Blues left-back seems to be getting better week on week. Was a colossus in the air and still offered his usual defensive resolve.
Mahoney 7.5 – He has added his level of consistency to his game over the last few months. Continued to work hard defensively, whilst giving the Sheffield defence something to think about offensively. His quality from set-pieces is huge for Blues.
Gardner 6.5- Worked hard and was industrious. Had a tendency to hit the Channel too frequently in the first half.
Davis 5.5- Worked hard but is obviously still a yard off the pace. Was a little bit poor in possession and tried to over-complicate the play too much. Also seemed reluctant to drive forward with the ball, when pace was in-front of him.
Maghoma 6.5- His defensive cover was excellent, but didn’t offer as much offensively as he’d have liked.
Adams 8- Was a nuisance for the Sheffield defence throughout the 90 minutes. His little moments of magic made Blues fans hope that we may just nick all three points. Performances like tonight justify all the interest from premier league clubs. Deserved a goal for all his work.
Jutkiewicz 7.5 – A Typical ‘Juke’ performance. Battled hard against a very physical Sheffield defence. He won virtually every aerial battle. Another tireless performance from the Blues number 10.
Craig Gardner 6- Worked hard when he came on, didn’t really have time to impact the game offensively but contributed towards Blues securing a very good point.
Jota 6.5- He is so frustrating. Showed glimpses of his class but then proceeded to fall short when it came to the final ball. Had a great opportunity to grab Blues all three points.
