A boost handed to a Monk-Bartley reunuion

Kyle Bartley, remember him? Following the relegation of Swansea, the defender has asked if he can leave the Welsh club.

Rewind exactly one year, Monk was a big admirer and wanted Leeds to pursue the permanent signing of the 26-year-old from Swansea in the last Summer transfer window.

It is believed a falling out between owner Andrea Radrizzani broke down talks of a new deal to keep Monk at Elland Road. Now, with the transfer window just opened, Monk now has a second chance to persuade the former Arsenal man to reunite at St Andrews.

Swansea’s board are willing to listen to offers as he wants to consider options elsewhere. The centre-back’s impressive form with Leeds during the 2016/17 campaign earned him a new four-year deal at Swansea, but knee surgery prevented him from playing regularly this term.

However, Monk will face competition for his signature with Rangers – now with Steven Gerrard at the helm – keen on him.

Another stumbling block would be the transfer fee. It is believed United are preparing a £4miillion bid for the former Blues loanee. Bartley made 17 appearances at St Andrews, scoring 3 goals. Despite his short tenure in a Blues shirt, he was no doubt fan favourite.

What do you think Blues fans? Should Monk look to strengthen his back-line with an experienced player such as Bartley, or are improvements to other areas of the pitch paramount?

  1. My main interest is in getting someone who can score regularly, I don’t see that we have a major problem at the back.
