This transfer window is turning pretty bleak for Harry Redknapp as he looks to strengthen his team before the window shuts at the end of the month.
Now, Blues have ended their pursuit of out of favour winger Stewart Downing. Garry Monk said the former England international could leave the club if he wants which seemed to turn Harry’s head.
However the move is off after failing to meet the winger’s high wage demands, according to reports. The 33-year-old returned to The Riverside Stadium two years ago in a deal which reached £7 million.
The player played his part in Middlesbrough’s promotion from the Sky Bet Championship in 2015/2016 but was unable to help the club avoid an immediate relegation back to the second tier last term.
The winger is now training with Boro’s Development squad ahead of a possible move. It looks like Blues fans will be asking even more questions as, following the departure of Kerim Frei, no one has been brought in to replace the Turkish International.
In other news, Redknapp has put a price on Shotton’s head.
Blues are understood to be holding out for a £2million bid for the former Derby County man, according to reports.
“We had an offer from Middlesbrough , it didn’t meet our valuation,” the Blues boss said on July 22.
It is also worth noting Blues haven’t held talks with Shotton for a new contract at the club. Bristol City and Hull City are also thought to be among the clubs to hold an interest in the 28-year-old.
Shotton joined the Blues in a cut-price £300,000 transfer last summer. However, with the arrival of Marc Roberts, regular game time will be even harder to come by this season.
What are your thoughts on the news, glad we’ve ended interest in Downing and would you be bothered if Shotton departed for a profit?
