Blues take on Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow at St Andrews and Dutch midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld says Blues have a point to prove.
Kieftenbeld, who’s been nominated for player of the month for January, has been impressive for Gary Rowett. No one can question that as the defensive midfielder scored two volleys in a month against Derby and Ipswich.
The Dutchman was a part of the side that lost 3-0 on Boxing Day at Hillsborough. Blues have begun their own undefeated six-game streak to move level on points with the big-spending Owls.
Here’s what he had to say ahead of tomorrow’s game:
“We were in the dressing room at Bristol City and were talking to Jacques Maghoma and he said ‘We owe them something because we didn’t play a good game up there’,” the Dutchman said.
“We want to show them that we are a team and we can play really well. It’s good we have got them so soon after that game.
“It’s an important game – but so are all the others, last Saturday was No. 7 against No. 22 and we had to be happy with a draw.”
Blues left Bristol on Saturday with only a point, however it wasn’t an easy game for Rowett’s men.
“There is not an easy game in this league so it will be really hard to stay but I have got a lot of confidence in the lads, they are doing really well
“What you saw at Bristol City. It was not an easy game for us – but it is easy to give up, that’s the easiest thing to do.
“But after half time we did well. That’s what I really like about it, we are a team and we showed that whatever happened we were not going to lose.
“Sometimes you are lucky and a you make a winner, last Saturday was a draw and that’s what’s good about this team, we are a team and we will fight for each other. If things are not going well, we stand up and stick together.”
