Blues secured the signing of both Robert Tesche and Ryan Shotton this week and the Blues boss is hopeful on ‘two or three other targets’.
Here’s what the Blues boss told the Birmingham Mail:
“The Championship is always a really challenging division anyway in terms of signing players,” Rowett said.
“You see that around the division, there has not been that much activity anywhere really.
“What tends to happen with the Euros it all gets delayed a little bit.
It is obvious the targets are specific to Rowett’s style of play and plans. Blues fans have been calling for a new defender, we have got one. Now the striker department needs bolstering…
“But to get the two players in, both of them we know their characters, how they fit into the group and what we think they will give us when they are in a settled environment, is important.
“Target-wise we have worked incredibly hard to chase two or three other targets as well, we are hopeful that over this pre-season period will come to fruition, although it’s very difficult to put a timescale on.
“What’s been encouraging for me is, the players I’m looking at now are definitely a better quality than a lot of the players I was looking at previously.”
“The summer has been going really well. It’s always important to have a little bit of a break and to re-energise.
“That only comes sometimes by trying to switch off – and that’s the players and the staff included.
“What that then does is allow you time to reflect a little bit on one or two areas, which you always try and do.
“It’s important to look back on the season, I am quite critical of myself inasmuch as I will always look at areas I think we can do better and things we need this season.
“That then leads into shaping your recruitment and things you are perhaps missing.”
Blues travel to Marbella for their pre season tour on July 9 before their first pre season clash with Solihull Moors on the 14th.
