Birmingham are interested in highly rated defender Alfie Mawson who has turned down a new contract at Brentford.
The 21-year-old centre back is now a free agent after impressing on loan at Wycombe Wanderers last season. Helping the Chairboys to the League 2 playoff final, he was nominated for League 2 Player of the Year.
He made 50 appearances while on loan at Adams Park last season and Wycombe are keen to retain his services. Scoring seven goals last term, Barnsley and Millwall are also in the race for the youngster’s signature.
It would definitely be convincing move for him to head to St Andrews as Blues are thought to be the only Championship club eyeing a move for him, at the moment.
However we know Blues are in the hunt for a new defender, after Rob Kiernan joined Rangers turning down the chance to return permanently following a collapse of a deal.
There have been a lot of rumours floating about with ‘a new arrival imminent’ and without knowing who that may be, this could be of of those.
Rowett has yet to make any signings with the squad now back in pre-season training. This time last year Lee Clark had made 9 signings!
