After missing out on the signing of John Terry, Blues have been linked again with Aston Villa’s defender Tommy Elphick.
Redknapp still wants another centre-back at the club and still admires the former Bournemouth captain, according to reports today.
This link comes after Blues were reported interested in signing the 29-year-old back in May.
Elphick joined relegated Villa for a reported £3million fee from Bournemouth. He captained the Cherries to promotion from the Championship in 2015, having also led them up from League One two years earlier.
With the Terry signing and losing his place last season, Elphick will find it even harder to break into the team this campaign, so Harry will use that to lure him to St Andrews.
There’s no doubt the Blues boss feels a need for more competition for places at the back. Morrison and Shotton will expect to have their places cemented, but a signing of this calibre could shake things up a bit, with Roberts also signed up. You know what they say; the more competition, the more players perform.
