Blues linked with move for Premier League winger

The Birmingham Mail has tonight reported that Blues are interested in a January move for West Brom winger Callum McManaman.

The former Wigan man has struggled for game time at the Hawthorns since his January move, having made only 10 appearances for the Baggies in nearly a year. It is now thought McManaman is looking for a move away in a bid to restart his career.

However, Blues aren’t the only team that have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, with Bournemouth reportedly willing to pay £3million for a player that cost West Brom nearly £5million a year ago.

If West Brom are looking for a sale, then it seems unlikely that Blues could make any sort of move for the winger, but if a loan move is the priority, Blues may have more of a chance.

I’m pretty sure that Tony Pulis wouldn’t be that keen to sell to a potential relegation-threatened opponent, which leads me to believe a loan move to a Championship club may be the most likely option. If so, this gives Blues far more of a chance in the race, if the rumour is confirmed to be true.

But also linked with McManaman is Premier League strugglers Swansea City and Championship promotion hopefuls Hull City. I think for Blues to have any chance of signing the one-time Blackpool loanee, they will need to be in a strong position come January. Only then will they have the sort of pedigree needed to bring in McManaman in, compared to the other sides linked with a move.

Only time will tell, but I think this could be a solid signing, should it come off. McManaman has proven Championship quality, and would no doubt increase competition for places with the likes of Gray, Maghoma and Cotterrill.

Let’s see eh.
