Blues have launched a bid for Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan for an undisclosed fee, according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old, who can play on the left or right, joined Wednesday from Crystal Palace on a one-year deal in 2015 and signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension in January 2016.
UPDATE: 12:32pm, Blues have been told he’s not for sale and are moving on to other targets.
Bannan has become a fan favourite at Hillsborough in the last two seasons, making 87 appearances and scoring four goals.
The Scotland International was subject to a bid from Hull City earlier in the month, which was turned down.
Hardy Redknapp is still keen to bolster his ranks before the window closes on Thursday and a winger is one area that is in desperate need of recruitment.
However, the bid would have to be more than Hull’s £3million, as the Owls are reluctant to sell.
Here’s what midfielder Jones had to say about him:
“Barry is very consistent; I enjoy playing with him,” said midfielder Jones. “He’s got great talent and gives his all for the team.
“We want to keep all our good players. We need the whole squad to be fighting for places and pushing on to get us where we want to get to and he’s no different.
“Barry has been here a couple of years now and had good season. He’s full of quality and we definitely want to keep him.”
Although he’s played in the middle of the park in recent months, he did feature on the wing for Palace. This could prove to be good business if this one is pulled off.
