MATCH REPORT: Middlesbrough 2-0 Blues – knocked down again

2

Middlesbrough away, a fixture looked forward to after a victory over the weekend, but with Garry Monk’s team in some good form it would take a very strong performance from a very under par Birmingham side to defeat them on their own patch.

Blues started with pretty much the same side which beat Mark Warburton’s Forest on Saturday with just a couple of changes; David Stockdale coming back in on the substitute bench and another one up top.

The game started off slowly for Blues, the home team had more of the ball which to be honest is expected against a team such as Middlesbrough and they didn’t hang about with Britt Assombalonga opening the scoring in the eighth minute with a strike from just inside the box. From this point on Cotterill’s side we’re battered, the season was not going to get any better even after a convincing win against Nottingham Forest, which is more than likely the only joy we may get all season.

The game never broke loose for Birmingham to get even a potential grip on it, but they kept at it, but only to Boro’s delight as they were rewarded with another goal just before half time again by Assombalonga.

Blues came out for the second half looking dressed up for another 45 minutes of abliteration but the song is ‘keep right on’ and that’s exactly what the side did, they carried on battling for a way back into the game but they just couldn’t quite get one…

Monk’s side had won the game within ten minutes and it’s something Blues need to stop doing, conceding too early. With Maghoma and Jota taking most of the blues chances, blues had a potential way through but the core of the home team’s defence stopped the boys in royal blue and they could not find a way through and that’s been the story of their season thus far.

  1. Another error prone performance, teams don’t have to try that hard to score goals against us and in return we can’t score goals ,who’s looking forward to the next 2 games against free scoring Sheff Utd and then Wolves ,I usually moan about family commitments when it means missing games but I’m happy I can’t make either game …League one is a certainty for me now next season ,but they may aswell stick with Cotterill he did well in that league with Bristol City

  2. The whole club is resigned to relegation fans 2 ,I mean I went for a beer at half time Saturday and the atmosphere was that flat that I missed 4 minutes of the 2nd half because I didn’t even know the players had come bk out never mind playing for 4 mins
