The first game of the new 2017-18 season, sights were set high with Harry Redknapp the man in charge after keeping the boys in royal blue up in the division last season. A few new signings in the team, promotion winning Brighton’s former keeper David Stockdale, former Barnsley defender Marc Roberts and midfielder Cheick N’doye from Angers in France. All playing well under the eye of the new boss in pre season and us fans were hopeful they could deliver. Ipswich hadn’t had much luck last year and they came into the game with two new signings, Joe Garner formed Preston and Rangers striker and well thought of young england under 21 defender Dominic Iorfa. Both teams with some business done, but recruitment is still a problem for both managers.

The game started well from both teams, attacks flooding in and Che Adams nearly scored early on and so did Michael Morrison with a header from six yards. The home side’s first chance came in the 5th minute with an attempt missed by Andre Dozzell. End to end stuff early on, with each team winning free kicks just outside the boxes – N’doye and Roberts with fouls. There were chances from either end, pretty much non stop but the defences of both home and away teams were unbeatable. There was a delay in play though near the end of the first half for a fair while with Andre Dozzell down injured, eventually there had to be a stretcher called onto the pitch to assist the player off.

That was practically it for the first half, a decent 45 but nothing concrete from either side.

No substitutes at half time for blues, but Clayton Donaldson did come into the game a bit more, with a couple of attempts at the start of the second half. With the Blues number 9 unable to hit the target, Ipswich broke the deadlock on 50 minutes with a goal from Joe Garner, the man leading the Ipswich line. From then on in Ipswich controlled posession with a tonne of corners and it was hard to see how Blues could get back into this one. It was a hard watch for all the travelling fans, but the boys will go again in a cup game in midweek vs Crawley Town.

  1. Tbh I think with that attacking line up a lot of us would have predicted a Birmingham 0 scoreline today against a side that will be in the bottom 5 or 6 for sure ,will be the same next week unless we can add some players before then

  2. What worries me is that on paper August could be a decent month for us with the games we got but with this squad before you know it a very tough September will be here with very few points on the board
