PREVIEW: QPR (A) – Will We Stay Up?

2

BIRMINGHAM CITY will tomorrow make the trip to London club, Queens Park Rangers, in a match that could guarantee Blues the Sky Bet Championship status for next season.

The Blues have had quite the turn-around since Garry Monk became our third manager of the current campaign, winning 4 games since the appointment, and putting us in what could only be seen as a firm position to be in as we approach the last two cup finals for the 2017/18 season.

The QPR side that we are set to face are nothing special, at all really, as they find themselves in 16th place in the current league standings. However, the Hoops did somehow manage to beat us 2-1 in our own back yard in the reverse fixture earlier this season, with Sam Gallagher being the one to find the back of the net for Blues on the day. Sam awaits to be granted a position in the Starting XI tomorrow however, as he has been injured for quite some time, with his first taster of game time under the new gaffer coming against Sheffield United as a substitute last weekend. Let’s hope Gals can add to his goal scoring tally for the season by netting a few against the R’s!

Matt Smith is deemed “the danger man” in the contest tomorrow afternoon for the opposing side, as he has a record of 10 goals and 9 assists in all competitions this season, and with Harlee Dean still out due to suspension after picking up a red against Wolves, we will be forced to work collectively to stop him and his other goal scoring team mates. However, Marc Roberts will most likely feature in Dean’s place as he did last weekend, where he picked up his first goal in a Blues shirt, in aid of winning 2-1 against the Blades.

Blues are currently in a situation where a win will definitely be enough to keep us up for at least another year, yet a point should do us just about enough, however in the typical Blues way of doing things, we never do it easy. But lets hope we turn a new chapter for a change this year, and have our fingers crossed to be able to celebrate our final game of the season, win or lose, rather than having another situation where it goes to the wire on the last game.

Another sell out crowd for the fixture means we should get Loftus Road rocking, and drown out any noise that the Home side will try to throw at us. Let’s all pray we work hard, and get started straight away tomorrow, as if we go behind in the affair, we could find ourselves with a mountain to climb to get the much wanted victory over Ian Holloway’s boys. All we want is to stay up, and save ourselves the nail biting on the final day.

Team News:

QPR: GK Matt Ingram will not feature after suffering concussion against Brentford last weekend, meaning Joe Lumley has been recalled from his loan spell at Blackpool.
Nedum Onuoha is an option after completing
Massimo Luongo will not be playing
Jack Robinson could return after suffering with illness.

BLUES: Craigy has recovered from the hip injury against Sheffield United
Isaac Vassell is still out with a knee issue
Harlee Dean serves the last of his two-match suspension

League Form:

BLUES: WDLLW

QPR: WLWLL

Previous Head-To-Head’s:

Blues Wins: 22
QPR Wins: 20
Draws: 14

My Score Prediction:

I think seeing as this is meant to be the easiest of our final two games this season, this is the game that we need to win to guarantee staying up. So I think that we will be completely up for the contest and run out as 0-2 winners on our travels!

Let’s get this win lads. We really need this. Come on you Blue Boyssssssss!!! KRO!!

  1. Seen a lot of stuff about us being safe. Hate to seem negative but we’ve only earned 13 points away from home all season so we’ll do well to get anything at QPR. Fulham on a 20 something game unbeaten run and their game against us will decide automatic promotion so realistically we can’t expect anything from that one either. I’m still nervous!
