MATCH PREVIEW: Nottingham Forest V Blues

2

Blues travel to Nottingham which may well be the make or break game for Steve Cotterill and his reign as Blues boss.

His side travel to the City ground off the back of five straight defeats in all competitions. They will be backed by 2000 Bluenoses, no pressure, eh?

TEAM NEWS

BLUES

Maikel Kieftenbeld returns to the side after serving a two-match suspension. David Davis looks to be out for this one following his knee injury at Villa Park. Jonathan Grounds and Isaac Vassell remain out.

FOREST

Forest will be without Eric Lichaj as he serves the final game of his three-match-suspension. Chris Cohen and Jack Hobbs remain sidelined.

One to watch:

Lee Tomlin

The 29-year-old helped end Forest’s winless run in style by scoring 2 goals in their 5-2 victory over OPR at the weekend. He will certainly be looking to add to his goal scoring tally against a shaken Blues side.

Manager quotes

Boss on Karanka’s side:

“I don’t know if it’s a good time to play them, I will have a better idea of that after the game. Aitor (Karanka) will have gone in there and wanted to put his own stamp on things. They had been playing some good football under Mark Warburton as well. Probably a bit of both (styles) to expect at the weekend I would imagine.”

Cotterill on what he expects from his players:

“I’m expecting them to be committed, but I expect that anyway. I want them to show our supporters that they really, really care about the football club, because that is important. Commitment is paramount for our supporters and from all of us. I know they don’t get to see it on a daily basis, but we are all committed and that’s what they want to see and hopefully that’s something they will see.”

Karanka on Blues:

“Sometimes these kinds of teams can play their best, because they know they are not in a good position. But once again it is about us. If we play in the way we have been playing, if the players enjoy it on the pitch and play in the same way as we did in the second half against Reading, it will be easier. I prefer to focus on us. It is going to be a tough game, because they are a team that needs to win games. They need to win because of their situation. But we need to win as well, because we are at home, in particular. Let’s see. We need to do our job; we need to go to the pitch with the same mentality as we do on the training ground and in the same way as we did at QPR. We need to be ourselves and not worry about anyone else.”

Head to head

Blues have won 3, drawn 4 and lost 5 of the last 12 stagings of this fixture, being outscored by their opponents by 14 goals to 13.

Forest have kept a clean sheet in 25% of their last 20 home games.

Previous encounter

Blues managed to scrape a home win back in November with Adams scoring after just 5 minutes. This was the first victory in 4 matches and gave the team some hope under caretaker Lee Carsley.

Predicted lineups

BLUES

Stockdale, Colin, Dean, Roberts, Brammall, Kieftenbeld, Lowe, Maghoma, Gardner, Boga, Gallagher.

Pantilimon, Darikwa, Pereira Figueiredo, Fox, Osborn, Watson, Colback, Cash, Tomlin, Lolley, Brereton.

We’re going for a score draw on this one. Blues will hopefully put that 5-0 drubbing at Brentford behind them and come out the traps fighting, managing to scrape a draw.
