Blues are looking forward to tonight’s clash at St. Andrew’s, as Harry Redknapp’s men are prepared to go head-to-head with our toughest contenders of the new campaign, Bournemouth, where we will hopefully grasp hold of a position in the following round of the Carabao Cup.
The Cherries are off to a negative start to the season, failing to collect any points from their opening two games. But as we come up against the Premier League side, they look strong favourites to be progressing through to Round Three.
Yet a fabulous day in the transfer business yesterday, we look strengthened and willing to put up a strong performance against the south-coastal side. However, Harry Redknapp has confirmed that only Cohen Bramall will be getting some game time in the cup-tie out of the selection of new signings.
Last Friday, we witnessed Blues lose 2-1 to Burton Albion, after two second half strikes from the Brewers secured their first points of the 2017/18 season. Nigel Clough’s side worked a very well organised back-line and we had to settle for our second loss of the new footballing year.
Bournemouth are scheduled to begin former Redknapp favourite – Jermain Defoe, as the London born goal-scorer will have his eyes set out on his team making it through to the next round. Jermain, 34, was in the news a lot for the passing of his best mate Bradley Lowery, and he appears to be taking his time to adjust to life under Eddie Howe, as Bournemouth are still yet to register a goal since the beginning of the campaign. Although, Defoe has made it clear that he is upset upon being used as a substitute during their opening two matches. But they will look to give us a good fight and provide their best efforts at gaining a pass through to the Third Round against an experienced Harry Redknapp.
However, despite our lackluster and rather disappointing beginning to the season, we must continue to have hope and pride, as our journey with Harry Redknapp continues, and we look ahead to tonight knowing that only a win will do in order to move further through the ranks of the Cup.
– Carl Jenkinson will not play says Harry Redknapp.
– Cohen Bramall will play at some point, but HR says he doesn’t think he’ll start him.
– Sam Gallagher is not illegible to play due to his late arrival yesterday evening.
– Che Adams will be out with a hamstring injury for another few weeks to come.
– Michael Morrison has had a nose surgery, so Redknapp won’t risk him tonight.
– Cheick Keita is unavailable following a “long-term” groin injury.
– Tyrone Mings, Dan Gosling, Marc Pugh, and Lys Mousset could make their way into the Starting XI, as Eddie Howe says he wants to rotate the team.
– Simon Francis (hamstring), Junior Stanislas (groin), and Callum Wilson (knee) are not expected to feature with injuries.
Games Played – 17.
Birmingham Wins – 3.
Bournemouth Wins – 10.
Games Drawn – 4.
Birmingham have never beaten Bournemouth at St. Andrew’s in nine attempts in all competitions (D3 L6).
I think that the Blues will give the game absolutely everything they’ve got, and will win on Penalties.
HARRY REDKNAPP ON THE GAME:
“They are a good team that play fantastic football. I was at their game on Saturday, although they didn’t have their best day. It was probably as bad as I’ve seen them play in a long time. But Eddie (Howe) has got a great squad there. He’s got two players for every position and they are all quality players. It will be tough whoever Eddie puts out. But it’s a good test for us. It is a club that is going to establish itself as a Premier League club, as long as Eddie and Max (Demin) the owner stay together.”
