The transfer rumours are certainly hotting up as the Blues boss readies his troops for the new Championship campaign.
News emerged earlier today that Blues have had a bid accepted for Lewis Grabban, but wages will be a turning point for the former Sunderland loanee.
If you had said to any Blues fan before the transfer window that a £5million bid has been tabled, they’d easily laugh at you, but here we find ourselves in a bidding war with Forest over a proven goalscorer.
There’s no doubt the St Andrews faithful were expecting Monk to stamp his mark on the team, but this much? Maybe not so…
With Forest seeming like a likely destination for Grabban, Monk may turn his head to Peterborough’s Jack Marriott.
Although the 23-year-old is not yet proven in this league, he has shown his worth infront of the cameras – the more notable game against Villa in the FA Cup third round where he scored two goals to help seal a 3-1 victory at Villa Park.
They say age is just a number, but Grabban is getting on and is expected to round off his career in the Championship. Marriott on the other hand, is about to hit his prime at the age of 23 and looks to be the more valuable asset with possible future sell-on fees the Blues owners would no doubt consider a factor.
Blues would however face stiff competition for him as he’s the most sort after attacker in the Championship this Summer. It is also worth noting he was left out of their first pre-season game last night so a move away from the ABAX stadium looks imminent.
With the League One top scorer on the radar of Bristol, Forest and Derby, more than £6million would be required to fend off any competition.
There is obviously money to be spent and several Blues fans online have already called for Monk to look at Marriott instead with Grabban likely to be heading to Forest.
Steve Mills – “If we have this sort of money to bid surely Marriott would be worth a punt?”
James Graham – “If we can bid 5m for Grabban surely we can buy Marriott where’s he off to?”
Liams Graphics – “Got to be Jack Marriott From Peterborough For Me. Vassell and Him Would Feed Off each other. With them 2 up top, Che behind, mags and Jota Out Wide, Juke as a super sup too! Our Attack would be deadly, still also think we need 2 GK and a ball playing CM also.”
Posh chairman said: “Whoever Jack Marriott signs for, IF that happens, he will make them a serious promotion contender in race for a £200 million prize.”
