Last night Blues managed to secure a huge three points that not only meant we moved up to 13th (With a game in hand) but it was a massive morale boost for the players and goes a little towards repairing relations with the fans. Defeat last night would have been so demoralizing I don’t think Zola would have had any support left, victory means we’ve got something positive to talk about especially as it puts us 8 points above the old gold and black.
I’m not about to say its proof we need to give Zola even more time but as I mentioned the other day here he’s not exactly miles behind Rowett’s worst run. If this is the green shoots beginning it’s something we should certainly encourage and support. We’ve never been a club that has it easy and I do think we’ve been spoiled by success in our recent history which has given fans an expectation that wasn’t there when I started going.
Maikel Kieftenbeld opened the scoring after a poorly held cross fell to his feet. It could have been that “bit of luck” we needed to be honest as that has been one of the most used arguments of late. Blues haven’t had that bit of luck., it must have felt like continuing though for the second.
David Davis once again netted in a local derby, the big man knows when to pick his goals and loves them coming on derby day. He netted the second goal following a deflected Che Adams pass, scoring within the box with a shot like a bullet into the bottom left after appearing seemingly from nowhere.
One of the things that makes last night more sweet is that we got the three points with only ten men following the controversial sending off of Paul Robinson following an altercation with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. The incident surrounded an alleged punch while Robinson was trying to get a hand off himself as the pair rolled on the floor. Robinsons reaction was quite aggressive in appearance but the Wolves players made a right meal of it and influenced the decision and with Robinson’s preceding him he was shown a red.
I sincerely hope this is the start of better things and with 5th Placed Leeds our next opponents next week at St Andrews a draw would be a great sign that things are falling into place. Wolves were one of the six games of teams below us and we picked up 2 more points than I initially envisaged, lets keep that up. It’s not done yet so lets KRO!
