It has been a long time coming, but finally Donaldson kicked off his goal tally for the season with a hat-trick against Bristol City on Saturday.
It all came from him doing what he does best, finding well-worked positions to reward him with goals. We saw him score 2 poachers goals on Saturday:
- The first came from him knocking the ball in from a couple of yards after Cotterill dragged the ball back across goal leaving Donaldson to put the ball into an empty net.
- The second came from a first touch finish from a Jon Toral through ball which Bristol City claimed to be offside.
- Finally, his third came from the penalty spot as Toral was brought down by loanee Nathan Baker and Donaldson slotted home to complete his hat-trick.
Now that he has kicked off his tally of the season, there is no doubt that there is more to come over the season. With him also being able to create chances as well, there is no doubt of how much of an asset he is to the club. These goals however, were more than justified considering how much he has contributed to the team already this season with the assists he’s provided as well as his performances in general.
Donaldson is now a massive goal threat in the championship after he proved that last season, and teams still struggle to stay on him in a game as he always looks for space and then moves into it to get the attack moving.
Even though he is 31 years old, he gives a lot of the younger strikers in the championship a run for their money and has shown that he is one of the top strikers in the division which he has evidence to show for it.
He still has a lot of pace for someone over 30 and has the vision to find those pockets of space in the opposition’s box for him to score his favourite ‘poacher’ goals.
Already, Donaldson is starting to become a huge fan favourite as well as a club hero and if he keeps on scoring goals this season and helps deliver a top 10 finish for Blues he will definitely become a St Andrews favourite.
It’s very promising that he kicked off his goal tally with a hat-trick as it shows he means business this season which could easily mean that he could pass the 20 goal mark this season with the performances he gives.
However, do you think Donaldson will score anymore hat-tricks this season?
